Asperger Syndrome

Written by on ,

Asperger syndrome or Asperger's disorder, is actually a form of autism. It is a lifelong disability that affects how a person processes information from the world and relate to others. Autism is also described as a "spectrum disorder" because of the various ways in which it affects other people. Asperger Syndrome is part of the puzzle.

Individuals with Asperger syndrome often have normal or above normal intelligence and language development but also autistic like behaviors and marked deficiencies in social and communication skills. This disorder was originally named by the Viennese physician, Hans Asperger, who published a paper in 1944 illustrates the patterns of behavior. Although the publication was not until 1994 that this syndrome was added to the DSM-IV and only recognized in recent years by professionals and parents.

By definition, individuals with Asperger syndrome have a normal IQ and potentially exceptional skill or talent in a particular field. These people are often viewed as eccentric and easy victims of teasing and bullying. On the surface, they seem normal language development, but they often have deficits in pragmatics. This means that they have difficulty understanding the meaning intended in his speech.
Individuals with Asperger syndrome was once considered to have hidden defects. This means that outsiders do not understand their situation because they are able to function in society. However, they have difficulties in social communication, social interaction and social imagination. While they do not have learning disabilities associated with autism condition can be associated with dyslexia and dyspraxia or ADHD.

Individuals who suffer from Asperger syndrome find it difficult to express themselves emotionally and socially and have trouble understanding facial expressions or tone of voice distinguish. Difficult for them to know when to start or end a conversation and how to use words and phrases that complex. Individuals often want to be social, but having trouble starting social relationships and may struggle to make and maintain friendships. Individuals with Asperger syndrome do not get social rules that most pick up at an early age without thinking. They see others as unpredictable and confusing, and because of this, it can be withdrawn and appeared interested in others.

While individuals may be very imaginative and creative, accomplished writers, artists and musicians-they also have difficulty with social imagination. This means that they find it difficult to predict the outcome of a situation or interpret other people's thoughts or feelings expressed by facial expressions and body language.

Other related characteristics including certain feeling of comfort in routine and develop a strong interest and a bit obsessive in a particular hobby or collection. Some individuals also develop sensory difficulties that can occur with one or all of the senses. The level of difficulty varies among individuals, but the most common way is a good sense of intensive or backward. For example, bright lights or loud noises can cause anxiety or pain for an individual who suffered from Asperger's syndrome.

Using some sophisticated brain imaging techniques researchers have found structural and functional differences in specific regions of the brain. This difference may be caused by abnormal migration of embryonic cells during development, while the child is still in the womb. Various studies have shown differences in brain activity when the children to have Asperger's syndrome were asked to respond to specific tasks. Although researchers believe there is a genetic component because of a tendency to run in families additional evidence is needed to connect the genetic mutations and Asperger syndrome.
